SPI’s bar scene runs the full length of Padre Blvd — about 7 miles from the southern tip up through the resort hotels at the north end. Port Isabel doesn’t get the press SPI does, and that’s exactly what makes it worth knowing. Eight bars in our directory — every one with regulars who’ve been coming for years. Joe’s Oyster Bar is a genuine institution: fresh oysters, cold beer, zero pretense, open 11 AM to 7 PM daily. Hopper Haus Bar and Grill runs 11 AM to midnight. J & Bubba’s Bar & Grill is open until 2 AM daily — Port Isabel’s best late-night option.

How to Plan Your Night: The Causeway Route

Arrive Port Isabel in the late afternoon, hit Joe’s for a round of oysters and drinks, then cross the Queen Isabella Causeway to SPI right around happy hour (4–6 PM is the sweet spot). Walk the lower Padre Blvd strip, grab dinner at one of the waterfront spots, and let the night take you north.
